Adding and editing homepage alerts

Adding and editing homepage alerts

Homepage alerts appear when a visitor first lands on your website’s homepage. They can be used to promote an upcoming event, announce last-minute news, or any other content that you want to make sure a visitor sees. Follow the steps below to add, update or remove homepage alerts.

Adding or editing an Overlay Alert

Overlay alerts act like a pop-up within your website. An overlay alert appears on top of your homepage and a visitor must actively close it to interact with the website. On a multipage site, overlay alerts only appear on the homepage, not on interior pages. Follow the steps below to set up an overlay alert.

  1. Log in to the BentoBox backend and click on Pages/Nav.my-bento-pages-nav-button.png

  2. Hover over the section labeled “Home,” “Landing,” or “Homepage” and click on the red edit button.homepage-alerts-edit-button.png

  3. Click on the “Alerts” box.homepage-alerts-panel.png

  4. In the Edit Hero Alert dialog that appears, check the box marked “Overlay Enabled.”homepage-alerts-edit-alerts-checkboxes-overlay.png

  5. Below the checkbox, you will see the Overlay Alert field. You can enter any copy and images. Click here for more details on using the WYSIWYG text editor.

  6. When you have finished editing your alert, click the Save & Close button. Now if you click the “Visit Site” link at the top of the screen, or just navigate to your site’s homepage in a new browser tab, the alert will appear overlaid on the homepage.

Adding a header alert

Header alerts appear in a bar at the top of your homepage. This alert is better for short text and does not support images. Visitors can interact with the content of the website without having to close the alert.

  4. In the Edit Hero Alert dialog that appears, check the box marked “Header Enabled.”homepage-alerts-edit-alerts-checkboxes-header.png

  5. Below the checkbox, you will see the Header Alert field. Enter your copy in this field.

  6. When you have finished editing your alert, click the Save & Close button. Now if you click the “Visit Site” link at the top of the screen, or just navigate to your site’s homepage in a new browser tab, the alert will appear overlaid on the homepage.
