Fee Visibility Toggle
Overview
A number of US states and municipalities have enacted fee transparency laws that require merchants to display applicable fees and an explanation where prices are shown (for example, on menus, advertisements, or online storefronts).
What the Fee Visibility toggle doesÂ
When enabled, the Fee Visibility toggle shows a banner on your online ordering or catering storefront that notes any service or additional fees that will be charged on the order. In addition, when a customer reaches the checkout screen, they will see taxes and fees broken out as separate line items, rather than combined in a single “taxes and fees” line. Merchants may use this feature to present fee information where required by applicable laws.Â
The below screenshots show the banner and checkout experience when the toggle is enabled.

How to turn the Fee Visibility toggle on/off
The Fee Visibility toggle is configured at the individual location level. From the dashboard homepage, you can find the Fee Visibility toggle for each location by clicking Online Ordering / Pre-Order and Catering (in the sidebar) → Location (under Settings) → Manage. The Fee Visibility toggle is under “Service Fee Settings.”

FAQs
Q: How do I know whether my business is subject to fee transparency laws?
A: As of February 2026, fee transparency laws or ordinances are in effect (or have announced effective dates) in California, Colorado, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Virginia, Florida (effective 7/1/26), and Connecticut (effective 7/1/26). Several municipalities, including Washington, D.C. and New York City, also have similar laws in effect.Â
Q: Will turning on the Fee Visibility toggle ensure my business is in compliance?
A: The toggle is intended to display fee information as generally required by fee transparency laws, but enabling the feature does not guarantee compliance. Clover Hospitality does not assume responsibility for customers’ compliance status.
Q: Do I need to turn on the Fee Visibility toggle if my state or municipality does not have fee transparency laws?
A: Enabling the toggle is optional. Some merchants may choose to enable it proactively (for example, if they operate in multiple jurisdictions or prefer to show fees more prominently). You can enable or disable the toggle anytime in the Location-level settings for Online Ordering / Online Catering in the Clover Hospitality dashboard.Â
Q: Will Clover Hospitality notify me or automatically enable the toggle if new fee transparency laws pass in my area?Â
A: We cannot guarantee notification or automatic enablement for future legislation beyond those jurisdictions. Customers should monitor legislative developments that may affect their compliance obligations.
Q: Where can I learn more about my obligations under these laws?Â
A: This Help Center article provides product information only. For questions about legal obligations, consult your legal counsel or the relevant local regulatory authority.
