Group Ordering

What is Group Ordering?

Group ordering allows diners to place an order for a large group without collecting and entering all items from their party members individually. Once the diner completes a group order, the consolidated order is pulled into the BentoBox backend as a standard online order.

How does it work?

Group Ordering can be turned on by navigating to Online Ordering > Settings > Locations > Group Ordering and selecting the toggle. When Group Ordering is active, the toggle will be green.

In Group Ordering settings, you have the option to set a maximum number of people per group order. We recommend utilizing this setting if you are limited in the volume of orders you can accept throughout the day.

You can also set custom spending limits, which will be shown to diners on the online ordering menu when they create a group order. If you do not enter a custom value here, the preset amounts of $15, $20, and $25 will automatically render on the online ordering menu.

Is there a service fee for Group Orders?

Yes, Group Orders are charged a 3% service fee. All other Online Orders will continue to have a $0.99 service fee applied to each order to cover the cost of support, email/SMS, and hosting. You can pass this fee to your diner in the Online Ordering Location Settings in the BentoBox backend under Service Fee Settings. If you choose to pass the fee to the diner, they will see it included in the “Taxes and Fees” line item at checkout.

Can Group Ordering be turned off?

Yes! If you do not want to offer group ordering to your diners, you can toggle off the Group Ordering setting in Online Ordering > Settings > Locations > Group Ordering.
