What Is ServiceSync and How Does It Work?
ServiceSync is a built-in feature of Clover Hospitality that keeps your restaurant running smoothly, even when your internet connection is down.
Whether you're dealing with a temporary WiFi outage or spotty service in certain areas of your restaurant (like patios or basements), ServiceSync ensures your POS devices stay connected and your operations continue without interruption.
How ServiceSync Keeps You Connected
ServiceSync uses a combination of technologies to keep your devices in sync and connected:
1. WiFi (Ideal State)
When your internet is working normally, all devices communicate with each other through your restaurant’s WiFi network.
2. WiFi Aware (Peer-to-Peer)
Even if your internet goes down, your devices can still talk to each other using their built-in WiFi. This peer-to-peer connection allows them to share information and keep orders flowing.
3. LTE Backup
As a final layer of protection, Clover handheld devices are equipped with LTE. If your WiFi is down, only one device needs LTE access to relay information from all devices.
Real-World Example
Let’s say Jane is taking orders on the patio, where WiFi is unreliable. Even though she’s out of range of the router, she’s within range of Joe’s device at the bar. Her order is sent to Joe’s device, which then relays it to the kitchen. The ticket prints without delay, and service continues seamlessly.
Key Benefits
No interruptions during internet outages
All POS devices stay in sync
Orders and payments continue to process
Improved staff efficiency and guest experience
Common Questions
Does ServiceSync work if the router is physically damaged or stolen?
If the router is damaged or missing, ServiceSync can still function on the POS device over LTE, meaning orders and other data can continue syncing. However, printers will not work without a router, as they are connected via Ethernet.Â
Will online orders still come through during an outage?
Yes, as long as one device has LTE connectivity.
Can I take orders in areas with poor WiFi, like patios?
Yes. Devices can relay information to each other using WiFi Aware.
