Clover POS Integration - FAQ
Setup and Platform Management
How do I activate this integration?
In addition to having an active BentoBox Online Ordering account, you’ll need:
Once you have this, to enable the integration, you’ll:
Log in to your Clover account and navigate to Account & Setup > Business Operations: Online Ordering
From the Sign Up tab, under Our Partners select BentoBox and Get Started
Go through the prompts and it will guide you to enable the Clover App and launch a BentoBox login window to setup your integration in BentoBox
Once you have logged into BentoBox, you’ll:
Navigate to SETTINGS > Integrations > Point of Sale > Clover. Click Connect next to the Clover selection.
From there, you’ll see a list view of locations. Click into the location you want to connect.
This will redirect you to Clover for authentication where you’ll then select your location again.
BentoBox and Clover will then save the connection. This allows BentoBox to get menu items, the initial inventory, and prices from Clover, allows BentoBox to send orders to Clover, Clover to send menu inventory updates to BentoBox, and BentoBox to update on-going inventory from Clover into BentoBox platform to display on your online ordering website.
After you select your Clover Merchant location, you will be redirected back to the BentoBox platform, into the settings of the Clover Integration. Click Activate and Confirm on the integration and this will finalize steps for connecting the systems.
Once this is done, your BentoBox menu will be automatically built using the modifiers, items, and categories populated from Clover.
Some settings will pull over from Clover, while others will still be editable in BentoBox, however these will be read-only in BentoBox, signaling to navigate to your Clover platform to make those changes.
Once this is done, do a final review of your online ordering in BentoBox before turning your store to ON.
What are the minimum requirements of my Clover POS system to integrate with BentoBox?
There are no Clover minimum software requirements or BentoBox minimum software requirements; as long as you have BentoBox Online Ordering and a Clover POS system, the integration will work.
There are some basic Clover Service Plans that may not work, and would require a change. Please reach out to Clover should you be in doubt your plan includes online ordering. For Clover help support, click here.
Is the Clover POS Integration with BentoBox secure?
Yes! We are using industry standard encryption communicating back and forth with the Clover system. For more technical details, please reach out to BentoBox support.
How can I manage inventory/stock when integrated with Clover?
Stock counts can only be managed within the Clover backend when integrated. This feature is either completely on for all items or completely off for all items. If it’s on within Clover, every item needs to have a non-zero and non-negative stock count within Clover and we will then display/track inventory from there (displaying the count of remaining items under 5, showing as sold out when it hits zero, etc.).
Visit the Clover Help Center for more info on managing stock tracking functionality.
Other than menu categories and items, what other data points or information does BentoBox get from my Clover POS system?
On top of menu categories, items, modifiers, options, and their associated details, we are getting the following details from the Clover POS:
Clover Accept Orders (i.e., your restaurant is turned on for online orders), syncing from your BentoBox partner Online Ordering page
Clover Pause/Resume (i.e., your restaurant is currently allowing online orders), syncing from your BentoBox partner Online Ordering page
Clover Fulfillment Methods, In-store Pickup and Delivery, syncing from your BentoBox partner Online Ordering page
Clover Business information, syncing from your Clover Online Ordering page
Clover Operational Information, syncing from your Clover Online Ordering page, including Food Preparation Time, and Scheduled Orders details
Does the integration cost anything extra on my BentoBox account? What about on my Clover POS account?
No, there are no additional costs to integrate with your Clover POS account, either from BentoBox or from Clover. You must first install the BentoBox app on your Clover system, navigate through the prompts, and then connect to BentoBox, but there are no costs from either of the systems.
What if I have an emergency and want to turn my store off?
Click here to temporarily turn off your store using BentoBox.
To stop accepting orders within Clover, follow these steps:
In your Clover account, navigate to Account & Setup > Business Operations: Online Ordering, to the Manage tab. From there, you will see BentoBox under Signed up services. From there, you can turn off Accept Orders altogether, or you can Select More options, and from this screen you can Pause services for a specific period of time, or turn off In-house or Delivery Services.
How do I manage my online ordering fulfillment methods (Pickup and Delivery) after my account is integrated?
Once integrated, if you need to toggle on/off your available fulfillment methods (Pickup and Delivery), you can do so within your Clover dashboard by visiting Account & Setup > Business Operations: Online Ordering, to the Manage tab. From there, you will see BentoBox under Signed up services. Select "More Options" to toggle on/off Pickup and Delivery.
Do my BentoBox fees still work with Clover POS Integration?
Yes, we support all the fees that are in the BentoBox platform. There are some caveats, however, as Clover and BentoBox process fees using different methods.
These will be created as $0.00 items in Clover for payment reconciliation, however will show up as a sum of fees in the subtotal of the Clover POS receipt. The BentoBox receipt, that the customer sees when ordering online, will show the same details of the fees that are part of your BentoBox platform.
What are the general flows of the Clover POS Integration? How does data flow to and from each platform?
Here are the primary data flows of the Clover POS Integration, after the initial enablement of the integration:
BentoBox gets various settings from Clover (delivery, in-store, business details)
BentoBox gets online ordering menu items and associated metadata from Clover (as set up in the Clover online ordering hub) and loads them into the BentoBox platform
If the restaurant updates their Clover online ordering menu in the Clover online ordering hub, BentoBox will receive that information and update the BentoBox platform
Diner creates an online order and that order feeds from the BentoBox online ordering website into the Clover POS System to print/display where all orders would display in the restaurant
If it exists, the Clover menu item inventory updates in the Clover POS System
Diner pays for the online order and BentoBox reconciles the order as paid in the Clover POS system
Clover sends the new inventory totals back to BentoBox to display on the BentoBox online ordering website
How do I verify my BentoBox location is connected to the correct Clover merchant ID and account?
In the BentoBox platform:
Navigate to SETTINGS > Integrations > Point of Sale > Clover. Click Manage next to the Clover selection.
From there, you’ll see a list view of locations that are integrated.
In the integrated account in question, you will see the BentoBox account and its corresponding Clover merchant ID. More information here.
Does Clover POS also support DoorDash Drive?
elivery fulfillment is a separate service from the point of sales. Enabling the Clover Integration does not impact the DoorDash Drive functionality.
Menu Management
How does my menu in Clover get added to an online ordering menu through BentoBox?
With Automated Menu Creation, a menu will be created and moved into BentoBox based on your Clover Inventory Categories. This includes Categories, Items, and Modifiers exactly as they are set up in your Clover POS. Learn more about Clover Categories here.
Here’s How Automated Menu Creation works:
The Clover Automated Menu will be read-only, which means you cannot change it in the BentoBox platform. It is designed to be managed from your Clover POS system and will stay in sync with your Clover POS. If you want to reorganize this menu, you can do so by adding, removing, reordering, or renaming your categories in your Clover POS. If you want to edit the details of the items, you can do this from the Clover POS Inventory Items section.
This menu can be used for your BentoBox online ordering, just like any menu you already have. Make sure to assign it to the hours and fulfillment methods representing its corresponding BentoBox location.
If you want to create additional menus in the BentoBox system, you can do so by creating a new menu and starting from scratch or by cloning the new Clover POS Menu and using the clone as a template for another menu. However, the Automated Menu will be the only menu that stays in-sync with Clover. This allows you to create your own menus using the Automated Menu as a template and benefit from BentoBox allowing multiple menus.
NOTE: If you’ve already connected your Clover POS system to BentoBox Online Ordering, you’ll need to manually sync Clover POS settings to BentoBox, which you can do from your BentoBox platform by following these instructions. The new Automated Menu will then populate with your other menus.
How do I change the name of an online ordering item?
In Clover, navigate to your Online Ordering section, and the Manage tab. From there, you can click Online menu and select an item to edit. This will edit the items online details, which BentoBox pulls from. If there are additional edits needed, you can click the Inventory link of an item to give you more options.

How do I change the price of an online ordering item?
In Clover, you must manage this in the Inventory section, which you can reach directly from your platform or from the link in the Online menu section. Changes here will then reflect in the guest ordering experience powered by BentoBox.

My Clover POS system does not have menu item photos, but my BentoBox account does; can I still have photos attached to my menu items for my BentoBox Online Ordering website?
Yes, you have the option to sync images from your Clover inventory, or you can use whats in BentoBox. To access the Image Sync toggle, within BentoBox navigate to STORE: Online Ordering > SETTINGS: General, and then to the POS Integrations section
Order Management
How are orders processed?
From the guest experience, they will still navigate to your website to place orders. These orders will then pass through the BentoBox platform and into your Clover POS system, centralizing to your kitchen just like any other order. Orders will automatically be marked as ready at pickup time. If orders are ready sooner, you can notify your guests by tapping the "Mark As Ready" button within the order on your POS.
How does my Clover POS system know the order is coming from BentoBox?
BentoBox will submit the order to the Clover POS system through the integration, centralizing all your orders. We will provide all the applicable diner details, enabling you to serve the order, as needed. If BentoBox is set to active in your Clover Online Ordering section, there is nothing you, as a restaurant, needs to do (beyond enabling the integration initially) to make the orders pass into your Clover POS.
I have a KDS in my kitchen or I have several remote printers in my restaurant that prints my orders from my Clover POS system; will those still work?
Because BentoBox is submitting orders to your Clover POS system in the same context as the orders you ring directly into your Clover POS system, BentoBox orders will show up and print in the same places that your standard tickets show up in your restaurant.
I have BentoBox dine-in enabled in my BentoBox platform; does that work with Clover POS Integration?
Yes! You should continue being able to offer Dine-In as a fulfillment type when using the Clover POS Integration.
Can I still use DoorDash as a door-to-door delivery partner?
Yes! Delivery fulfillment is a separate service from the point of sales. Enabling the Clover Integration does not impact the DoorDash Drive functionality.
Will my “Accept orders with Google” still work with Clover POS Integration?
Yes! This will work as part of the integration just like it does today, with your orders passing through to the Clover POS system like they would from your website.
Will my “Delivery Zones” still work with Clover POS Integration?
Yes! These will work as part of the integration. However, there will be some fees that will need to be set up in the Clover platform, just like other fees.
You can view the BentoBox help article on how to set up your various fees here.
